My full name is Samantha Quarterman, but please call me Sam. My preferred pronouns are she/her.
I am the Coordinator of Educational Technology for the Fort McMurray Public School Division. In this role, I support teachers with educational and assistive technology, and lead K-12 curriculum development, focusing on digital literacy, computer science, and most recently, Artificial Intelligence.
I am passionate about understanding how AI and machine learning can assist educators with differentiation, assessment, feedback, lesson and unit planning, content creation, and deepening our understanding of various topics. My professional growth centers on ensuring we use generative AI tools ethically and responsibly to address challenges like academic integrity, privacy, security, and bias.
In the summer of 2023, I collaborated with Keyano college to develop an open-access, asynchronous
Digital Literacy Micro-credential. This course engages learners with the foundations of digital citizenship, focusing on key areas like evaluation, ethics, privacy, creation and digital well-being.
I hold a bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of Alberta and am currently pursuing a masters degree in Educational Technology, at the University of British Columbia.
I have been teaching since 2015, covering a wide range of grades and subjects from Early Learning to Grade 12. Most recently, I taught senior high computer science, though the majority of my teaching career has been in elementary education.
When I'm not teaching, you can find me walking with my daschund,
Stevie, or enjoying a spin class on my Peloton bike!
